how to protect yourself from evil eye

In ancient Greece, they crafted and wore the evil eye as a symbol of protection. As a Greek myself, I was taught about the evil eye from a young age.

The concept of evil eye isn’t new. It spans many different cultures. It’s also known as an envious eye.

When someone looks at you or talks about you with envy, you’ll get the evil eye.

This post is all about how to protect yourself from evil eye.

Why does the evil eye affect me?

The best means of protection against the evil eye is the evil eye symbol. In Greek ancestry, we call the evil eye Kako Mati.

Kako means bad and Mati means eye. Usually, this is in reference to a particular person who has Kako Mati.

For example, a friend said that every time a friend complimented something of hers, the item broke.

The next time we were all together, I saw that friend compliment my friend’s platter while she was washing it. The platter broke into pieces in her hands!

That is someone with a Kako Mati. Even though she gave a compliment, it cast the evil eye.

The deeper meaning revolves around jealousy or greed. The best way to protect yourself is by using the evil eye symbol.

The evil eye is a powerful symbol that stares back at the energy. This returns all bad luck back to the sender.

How can I protect myself from the evil eye?

Protecting yourself from the evil eye is about prevention. By the time you realize you have the evil eye, you’ve already got it!

You can address any evil feelings as they come your way, but that’s reactive.

Evil eye protection is all about guarding yourself, your home, car and family upfront.

It’s easy to do this with the tools I’m going to recommend in this post.

How to protect yourself from the evil eye:

You can try one or all these. The eye or “mati” symbol is the most powerful option for protection against the evil eye.

Modern times need modern solutions to the evil eye. We’re dealing with things that our ancestors never had to deal with.

Things like the internet and social media make the evil eye easier to get.

A common theme of the evil eye these days is overexposure. Oversharing makes you more vulnerable to the opinions of others.

It’s ok to share but do it after you have what you have. Don’t share your process or your intentions. Not everyone has your best interests at heart.

Part of protecting yourself is knowing who you can trust and using your discernment.

Wear an Evil Eye Amulet

There isn’t a most popular anti-evil eye charm. They all work. Make sure to set an intention when you choose one.

Give your amulet a job by asking it to perform a task for you.

The iconic blue-eye glass amulets are not only gorgeous but very protective.

The style of evil eye jewelry doesn’t matter as much as the intention you set for it.

Evil eye-shaped amulets are powerful on their own. Combined with your intention, it’s unstoppable.

I like wearing them somewhere on my body. You can choose a necklace, bracelet, anklet, or earrings.

This evil eye necklace is dainty and perfect for everyday wear!

Clear Negative Energy

It’s important to clear negative energies from wherever they exist in your life. Negative energy is heavy so it weighs you down.

When you release it, you’re also releasing attachments to it.

It could show up as another person, or fear. Sometimes it’s the inability to let go.

Look for areas where you keep talking about something or someone from the past. There is energy there that needs clearing.

If you find that you keep harping on something from the past, you can work with someone to cut cords.

You’re a human being, and human beings hold onto things. When you release yourself, more of your energy becomes available to you.

In a way, you also release the evil eye when you do this.

You’re choosing positivity and to let things go.

Then, you can put that energy into self-protection.

Put the Evil Eye Symbol outside your home

I like putting an plenty of amulets outside my home. One is on my front door but I also have one in my office, and other rooms in the home.

If you’re putting one outside your friend door to protect your home, ask it to protect your home and everyone in it.

You’ll notice that I have an evil eye amulet and a decorative piece on my front door.

My evil eye amulet was a gift, but here’s a similar one on Amazon. You definitely want to have one that is sizeable for your front door.

This is the exact welcome to our home sign that I have on my front door. The O in Home is interchangeable with different themes. Adorable!

Lastly, they have the absolute cutest Evil Eye doormats on Amazon. This is the next purchase I’m making to be sure the energy is legit!

Call on White Light

There is no greater power than white light because it’s aligned with God. The white light always brings in positive energy.

This is a free technique that you can do immediately. It also works immediately.

If your living space needs an energetic overhaul, call in the white light.

Stand in the center of your home and close your eyes. Ask the white light to fill your home, you and any other inhabitants. See it in your mind’s eye.

This isn’t complicated. Use your imagination!

Use Stones

The amethyst stone is an all-around protective and healing stone. Amethyst is safe to keep on your nightstand while you sleep.

This little amethyst Angel is only two inches and perfect for taking with you!

If you feel ungrounded at home, you can put protective grounding stones in the four corners of your home.

Stones that are good for this are onyx, black tourmaline and shungite.

Wearing black tourmaline on your body is ultra-powerful and protective. This best selling bracelet on Amazon is perfect for that.

Crystals are extremely powerful tools to protect and shield your energy! My favorite book is The Crystal Bible because it guides you in how to use stones for every type of situation. Highly recommend!

Shield Yourself

Shielding is a technique to protect from the power of the evil eye.

In Greek, we call bad eyes “Kako Mati.” It means that someone has a bad eye and the ability to send the evil eye. Not everyone has this.

Some people may gossip about you and never send the evil eye.

When you shield yourself, you’re calling on the protective powers of the light to guard you.

In combination with the evil eye amulet, you’ll be fully protected.

I don’t use a bubble shield because I find it ungrounding. Instead, I use a pyramid. Here’s how to shield:

  1. Sit somewhere with your feet flat on the ground.
  2. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  3. Use your imagination to see a big pyramid in your mind’s eye and place it over your body.
  4. Expand the pyramid to make it larger than your city.
  5. Ask for white or gold light to fill the pyramid. See a waterfall of light come down from the heavens into the point of the pyramid until the entire thing is filled.
  6. See your body being filled with the light.
  7. See the light travel down to the base of the pyramid, until it travels all the way to the center of the planet.
  8. See the light ground itself in the center of the planet like a tree rooting itself.

That’s it! You’re grounded.

You should feel the difference once you complete this process.

Shungite can be placed in the four corners of your home to ground and protect the energy. The pyramid shape is both grounding and protective!

I like this set of shungite pyramids from Amazon.

Exercise caution with good news

It’s wonderful to share beautiful things happening in your life with others. Reserve it for when you already have what you’re working towards.

The evil eye is less powerful when you already have what you want.

If you’re sensitive, sharing too early makes you susceptible to other people’s negativity.

If you’re prone to stop working on your goals when someone shares a concern, then I’d avoid sharing at all costs. People tend to project their fears onto others.

Instead, I would choose a small group of people who support you no matter what.

It’s always good to have friends that are honest with you. That includes areas where they see you may be self-sabotaging.

I wouldn’t dismiss this because it isn’t what you want to hear. The phrase, “consider the source” comes to mind.

If these friends generally support you and love you for who you are, you can trust them with all sharing.

It’s important to discern the difference.

Limit Social Media Sharing

The evil gaze stems from jealousy. It’s usually sent when someone is talking about you behind your back.

The interesting thing is that someone can still send you the evil eye if they’re talking about you in a good way.

It has nothing to do with negative or positive talk. It has to do with the talking itself, and someone who has a bad eye or “Kako Mati.”

People can be saying good things about you but if they have a kako mati, they will still send the evil eye.

For this reason, it’s important to limit your sharing on social media. Be strategic with what you share. Limit your sharing to custom groups that you trust.

You can share with the rest when you have what you’re working towards.

Or, not at all. It’s up to you. You’ll find that the more sensitive you become, the easier it is to feel other people’s energy.

As you notice this, you may become more introverted and share less.

In this ever-connected world, protecting your energy while using your phone is even more important. I’ve had this evil eye pop socket on my phone for 2 years and it has made a huge difference!

Is there any way to prevent the evil eye?

Prevention is key with the evil eye but you can’t always prevent it.

Part of it is realizing when and if there are evil spirits around you or in your space. Training yourself to recognize evil eye energy is important.

The most popular method for protection is to have the evil eye symbol around.

Here’s a very relevant example. Yesterday I called my aunt to have her check for the evil eye for my dog and I. Yes, animals can get it too.

In fact, I bought this evil eye dog tag on Amazon to shield my dog!

The evil eye often comes with symptoms like a headache, but I felt fine. I was more tired and less motivated than usual but I’ve also been very busy.

She checked and found that we both had the evil eye.

We took a long nap and felt much better after. Energy does affect you.

Even if your only symptom is that you don’t feel like yourself, it’s as important to check for the evil eye.
